Vintage Camera with Mini

I started on this camera project at a Notorious Scrapaholics weekend crop and have not had time to finish the mini album that goes inside.  This is one of Kathy Orta's  patterns.  She is an amazing artist and I love that her instructions are easy to follow.  Check out her website at www.paperphenomenon.blogspot.com.  I finished the camera as shown here.

I plan on replacing the picture in the front with a picture of my mom.  I did not glue the face on so I would be able to change out the picture.

This is a side view of the camera.  Those bellows were interesting to make, but I like how they turned out.  The graphic 45 metal plates really do a lot to make the camera look vintage.  The metal plate on the top front of camera is a paper holder that you buy from an office supply store.  That just goes to show that scrapping items can be found just about any where.  My friend Kisha has added to  my understanding of that.

This is the back of the camera.  The D-ring is what holds it closed.  I love the handle.  Instead of chipboard I used grunge paper.  I have so much of it, thanks to Tuesday Morning, that I decided I would use that instead of the chipboard the pattern called for.

This is the album.  It is not finished so I will share just a couple of the pages.  I plan on finishing the album and adding pictures this week.  Yes, I pieced together the polk a dot piece of paper in the frame.  I figured it won't matter once I put a picture in it.  Can't embellish the front too much, otherwise it won't fit. Put I will probably add some bling, some lace or some feathers. 

This is the inside cover and the first tag page.  Love Graphic 45 paper.  It gives you so many things you can fussy cut to add dimension to your pages.  For a long time I thought I could not scrap without my cricut.  Graphic 45 paper needs no extra embellishments.  But because I like dimension, you will see later how I added doilies and feathers and bling.

This is the back of the tag page and the next page.  The round postage cancellation is actually a tag that fits between the pages.  When the album is complete I will show the details of the page.  Thanks for looking.

My Organizing Update

I have been organizing my scrap space.  I have to clarify.  This used to be my sewing room but scrapbooking has taken over my life and my room.  Some of the big drawers still  have some sewing supplies. LOL.

Yes, I love zebra print.    I had thought about doing different color zebra prints but thought that would drive me crazy.  This is working for me so far.  I just took zebra print paper and cut it in strips and taped it inside the front of the containers.   It is only temporary and can easily be changed. The 12"x12" containers both on the counter and the ones in the drawer units are mostly specialty papers or page kits that I have created myself. Some of the containers are empty.  The 8 1/2" x 11" containers are just paper or embellishments.  I still need to label everything.  The little ziplock containers on the wire shelving are my flowers that are sorted by colors.  I got the ziplock containers a few years ago for about 20 or 30 for $1.00 with lids.  I just cut a piece of my zebra print paper and stick it in the front and put the flowers in and taped a flower designating the color to the outside.. 

I have had some ask about the big white drawer units, (some are still brown becaue I haven't finished painting them). I got those units from a motel that went out of business.  They were 3 drawer units that I reinforced and stacked and then made an extra set of drawers to go on top so that it would reach the line in my scrap room before the wall slants.  I got the drawer units for $10 a piece and purchased 6 of them.  I made the white stand that has the containers both on top and the bottom.  The bottom shelves actually pull out because I once stored my clip it ups in them.  I thought I was going to get rid of it, but since it has wheels and is easily rolled around, I think I will keep it for a little while longer.

Here is a better picture of the containers that have the flowers in them.  I had to put some of that shelf liner on the rack because some o the containers kept sliding off.

These are mostly my Tim Holtz dies.  I got the racks they are sitting on at a cost of 4 for $1.50.  I did not know what I would do with them, but they were metal and they were black and at lest than 40 cents a piece, I knew I would fnd a use for them.  That tells me I need to check thrift stores more often.  The are actually made to hold cassettes (for those that remember what a cassette tape is)

These are some racks I got when my favorite scrapbook store closed.  The paper rack holds 12"x12" stacks and the smaller rack hold embellishments, mostly Prima.

This is the right side of my table.  It has the glue stand I made at my right hand, and I used a container, I already had, to put some other tools that I like having readily available.

The right side of my room is not too bad.  I did not make any major changes to it at all.  I will post those pics at a later time.  Thanks for looking.

Organizing

I have been so busy organizing that I have not had any time to create.  I am so anxious to get back to creating.  I have learned some lessons during this process. 

1. We don't have to have every new tool that comes out.  I have so many tools and gadgets that I have never used.  Mostly because "out of site out of mind".  My goal with this organizing round is to put those tools and gadgets where I can see them so I can use them.
2. More is not better.  I have so much PAPER that I could not buy any for the next  5 years and I could scrap everyday and not run out.  So right now paper does not excite me at all.  The only paper I will be interested in, in the next two years is Graphic 45, because once that is gone you can't find it anymore.  I am so loving French Country.
3. Use it...It USED to be so hard to use some of my scrap things.  I was afraid I would have a different or better picture to use it with. NO more.  If it works for that layout, I will use it, even if I only need one of the two sheets for the project.  NO MORE SAVING.
4. Get Busy.  I love learning new techniques and have so loved learning the 3-D or 2-D projects of artists like Kathy Orta, Jim the Gentleman Crafter and Laura Denison.  And I will continue to do those projects. But I have had a bad habit of not putting pictures in the completed projects.  I will now put pictures in them.
5. It is ok to have empty containers. I have emptied so many paper containers in this process, and have learned, they can stay empty.  For now, I will just put completed pages in them until I transfer the pages to albums, which i already need to do.  LOL
6. Share...there are lots of people and organizations that could really use some of the stuff I have, that I am not using and have little plans on using.  I tend to already use a lot of it for my church and our library need to expand a little.  And maybe even sell a few items. 
7. Simplify... Everything does not have to be so detailed.  I have always been such a detailed scrapbooker that pages tend to take me a little longer and have several raised elements.  It is ok to go simple.  Probably the best rule I have learned since doing the 2-D and 3-D projects.  Sometimes simple is best.

Nutcracker Sweet Slider Mini Album

This Nutcracker Sweet Slider Album is the creation of Xannero1 on YouTube.  She has a pretty amazing tutorial.  She is an amazing artist.   I did many things as prescribed in her tutorial, and would do some things differently if I was to make another slider album.  Love the idea.  This album uses the thread binding system, not crazy about it.  I think I would like something a little more stable.  Love the slider and of course love the Graphic 45 paper.  This is the cover, lots of fussy cutting.  I basically used one sheet of every paper in the paper packs for the 8x8 and the 12x12.  That gives you a lot of paper left over for another project.  Probably used more of the tags and such, so I may have to get more pages of the tags.

The finished album measures 7 3/4" x 5 3/8"x 2".  There are only 3 slider pages, but that give you lots of room for pictures and journaling

Here is the spine and the closure.  Just a more fussy cutting to cut out the clock and I used  hinges and added ribbon to close.  The hinges on each corner of the album serves two purposes, to add support and also decorative.

This is the inside cover.  The curtains were fussy cut, and the green was added to make the pockets a little deeper since the curtain was not wide enough to completely cover the board.  The clock, tree, nutcracker, gingerbread boy and gifts were all fussy cut and added to create a border.

This is page one, and each slider page has a full size mat where the tabs are.    By the way, the nutcracker stands up and the mat can slide either behind it while flat or there is a slot for it to go in when it is standing.  I will have to use that trick more.

Isn't that cool. Makes for a very interactive book.  There is a magnet behind the nutcracker to help it stay in place.

Here is a picture of the slide out.  It holds a mat with a pocket.  The border also creates another pocket.

This is the backside of page one, while the slider is open.  The little girl is raised, but will lay flat when the book is closed.

This is the second slider page (while closed.)  I used some of the frames left over from the fussy cutting to create a frame on the page.  The title is also fussy cut from one of the papers.

This is after the above page is opened and the slider is pulled out.  The dancer on the left is raised and she has netting as part of her tutu.  The slider she is attached to helps to hold the mats in place.  On the right, the camera lens is actually removable so you can place a picture on it and on the space behind it.  The girl was fussy cut from the 8x8 stack.

This is the backside of the second slider.  the lady stands up.  This page opens to the left and then slides.

This is the third slider page.  The nutcrackers form a pocket and the entire pocket swings out to show the page behind it.  The snowflakes were from a sticker sheet (not G45).  The center nutcracker is a tag an is removable.

 

This is the fold out of the nutcracker slider page.   The dancer on the slider is raised and lays flat with the help of a magnet. 

This is the back of the third slider.  Simple frame and the bow and mouse fussy cut from the paper line.

This is the slider behind the third page.  It is pulled out and the post card is kept in with a magnet.

This is the inside back cover.  The grandfather clock is on the third slide out, not on the back cover.  Just to note, there is a mouse behind the door on the bottom of the grandfather clock.  The door is kept closed with a magnet.

Scarves...Scarves and more Scarves

A friend taught me during our lunch break in December, how to make these beautiful scarves.  Now, keep in mind I don't knit.  But she taught me in 5 minutes how to knit these scarves. Thank you so much Alicia.    Love them.  I  have probably made about 40-50 scarves since then.  I think I am a little compulsive.  I have sold some, and I have given a lot of them away.  It is so relaxing to make them.  I take them to ball games and it helps keep me from yelling too much at the games.  Keeps me a little calmer at the games, I am sure my kids are glad of that.  LOL.  There are some beautiful  colors of this yarn available.  I have also crocheted a few of them, but I prefer the knitted look.  If you are interested in making them, I think there are some great tuturial videos on youtube.  Most people call them ruffle scarves.

My Glue Stand

My hand made stand.  I have used it, and it is awesome.  Right now, because my table is a mess, I use it while it is sitting on top of its container, which is sitting on top of a drawer unit.  But my plan is to have it sitting directly on my scrap table when I am at home.  Hope you like it and are inspired to create someting that will work for you.

This is my take on a personal glue stand.  I wanted to be able to have my glue guns and adhesives that I use, just about everytime I sit down to create, readily available.  I hope you like it.  It is made from medium weight chipboard and the black base is foam core board.  I made it so it would sit on top of a plastic container where I could keep my other adhesives like scrappy tape/scor tape and such.  The container does also hold 12"x12" paper.

Although it is made to sit on the container, it also can be removed to sit directly on the table.  The foam core is in two layers.  The bottom layer is cut to fit the shape of the plastic container, so that it doesn't slip off when it is on top of it.  The top layer of the foam board is solid.  I should have used black foam core, but I used what I had available.

This is the conatiner I am using.  Hopefully you can tell that the top of the container is raised, and that is why it worked for this project.  It is actually  a set of 3 containers.  They graduate in size so that they stack on top of one another.  There is only one lid, as each container serves as a lid for the one underneath.  I purchased these at Hobby Lobby (regular price $20/but of course I used a coupon)  I think they are by HOMZ

This is a side view.  It is not complete, because I want to decorate the refill containers that are currently covered by their lids.  I also want to make the lids some type of attachment so they stay on when being transported.  The round glue holders are empty toilet tissue rolls.  I did adhere strips of chipboard around the top and bottom of the rolls to make them a little more sturdy.  After painting them and adding the paper, they are really sturdy.  I put four spots for the round adhesive bottles, but there is room on the board to add more.  May use some of the empty space just to put things on with velcro.  The empty space in front of hot glue gun will have a square of anti stick stuff (for lack of the official term).  This will be so the dripping glue does not damage the board.

Here is a picture of the refill boxes with the lids removed.  Now I have the glue guns and their refills at easy access.  I don't have to get up to go to a drawer, and I will know when I am starting to run low.  Any extras I have that don't fit, will go in the plastic container that the board can sit on.

Another view of the board.  The boxes are all different sizes.  I tried to make them, so the refills fit, and I could keep several  in the boxes. As you can see the lids come all the way off.   The Scotch box hold about 8-10 refills, depending on whether you keep them in their original boxes.  The Glue glider Pro box hold 5 refills, and the box with the glue sticks holds a lot of glue sticks.  The nice thing about this stand and the plastic container it sits on, is that it holds all the adhesives I need to take to a weekend crop.

The stands for the adhesive guns are also made from chipboard.  They vary a little in size with the largest one being 5"x6".  They are about 1" in depth.  I used plain medium weight chipboard and paper hinges cut from Kraft paper.  Then the whole thing was painted black and then I decided to use some paper to cover some of the sides.  The butt end of the guns are either in slices of toilet tissue rolls or just spare strips of chipboard formed into a rectangle.

Purses

I go through phases of wanting to get some sewing done, since that was my first passion for a long time.  So... what I did was make some purses.  Since I am in Alabama, I figured I would focus on the two teams that have divided my household...Alabama and Auburn.  I am neutral.  My husband went to Alabama so of course he is a die-hard Alabama fan.  One of my son's is an Alabama fan and the other is an Auburn fan.  I think my oldest is an Alabama fan also... As I said divided. 

It may look like I did more Auburn purses, but I sold or gave away some of the Alabama purses. LOL
